14. More About Medicare

The Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) handle the day-to-day operations of Medicare within their assigned regions. This map shows where they are located. On the Medicare website, not all states have a MAC listed for them (hence the blank spaces in the the book).

To keep the chapter from being deadly dull, I added a few photos. This one shows the construction of a ProNova gantry. If Medicare seems obtuse and complex, so too does the technology of proton therapy.

I showed this sign to respond to Dr. Troxell's Anti-Agiing Centre (across the street from Provision). I find that my elder years are the most rewarding of my life. I have no desire to be against aging. Fighting the inevitable seems futile. Of course, this is mostly referring to cosmetic appearances. The same point pertains. Showing your age is not a disease that needs to be remedied. Yes, our society is very youth oriented, but we can work to have more understanding and respect for the process of aging and older people themselves.
